Stream Monitoring Update from Jeff Iliff

Posted by Michael Brooks on May 26, 2015 at 3:30 PM

Three level-3 stream surveys were preformed on May 14 by the Warm Springs Watershed Association; two on Warm Springs Run and one on Yellow Run just before it joins Warm Springs Run. It was 60 degrees and sunny.

Site 1; behind Earth Dog Cafe: Habitat conditions: Marginal. Biological Conditions: 54.1=Marginal. Benthic Macroinvertebrate count: Low tolerance: 32 critters represented by 6 types, medium tolerance: 39 but only two types, high tolerance: 30 of three types.

Site 2; about 100 yards downstream from site 1, behind Coldwell Bank: Habitat Conditions: Suboptimal. Biological Conditions: 68.7=Suboptimal. Benthic Macroinvertebrate count: Low tolerance: 140 of 7 types, medium tolerance: 86 of 5 types, and there were 36 high tolerance organisims all of the same species.

Site 3; Yellow Run by Sheetz. Habitat Conditions: Suboptimal. Biological Contitions: 54.3=Marginal. Benthic Macroinvertebrates: Low tolerance: 17 of 7 types, medium tolerance: 13 of 4 types, and there were 19 high tolerance organisms of the same type.

These results show that there is room for improvement in the water quality in Warm Springs Run. Warm Springs Run Watershed Association will continue to work on addressing the issues that are causing these marginal and suboptimal results.

The Level III Summary reports are posted under "Our Watershed".
